Clinical Use | AKA: Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT) The automated fecal occult blood test detects the presence of human hemoglobin using a photometric reading of the presence of an antibody-antigen complex. This immuno-chemical test provides several advantages over the old guaiac method which include ease of collection, reduction in the number of samples needed, no dietary restrictions, increased specificity for human hemoglobin and detection of hemoglobin from the colon or rectal area only. |
Notes | No special diet needed. If upper GI bleed is suspected, a traditional stool guaiac tests should be performed (OCC BL 1,2,3) The ICT OCCULT is specific for human hemoglobin from the colon or rectal area only for the detection of colorectal cancer, or lower GI bleeding. |
