Instructions | The bacteria present in specimens multiply quickly in urine at room temperature. Therefore, a properly filled urine transport tube containing boric acid is recommended to ensure optimal results if the specimen cannot be refrigerated until arrival in the lab. Care should be taken to collect a specimen without skin contamination (skin contaminants can multiply as well). The source should be indicated. Please refer to urine culture collection guide for more information. Stability: Room temperature 2 hours, Refrigerated 48 hours, Preserved (boric acid) 48 hours (room temperature or refrigerated) Urine in preservative tubes must be filled to the minimum fill mark on the tube. |
