Instructions Specimens cards should be collected on consecutive bowel movements.
SPECIAL DIET REQUIRED:
Do not eat red meat, any blood-containing food, cantaloupe, uncooked broccoli, turnip, radish, or horseradish for 3 days prior to the test.
Some medications may interfere with this test. These include vitamin C and aspirin. The health care provider should be consulted regarding medication changes that may be necessary. Medication should not be stopped or decreased without consulting the health care provider.
The patient’s full name and date/time of collection should be noted on the cards.
Stability: Specimen should be immediately transferred to the provided sample card by the patient or provider at time of specimen collection. Occult blood cards should be submitted to the lab within 10 days of the first sample collection. To insure stability, submit cards promptly after the last collection. Cards containing sample can be stored at room temperature for up to 14 days before testing.
