Specimen Collection: Transfer the serum into a LabCorp PP transpak frozen purple tube with screw cap (LabCorp ID 49482). Freeze immediately maintain frozen until tested. To avoid delays in turnaround time when requesting multiple tests on frozen samples, PLEASE SUBMIT SEPARATE FROZEN SPECIMENS FOR EACH TEST REQUESTED.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Clinical Use Osteocalcin, the most abundant non-collagen protein in bone matrix, is a bone-specific, calcium binding protein. Serum osteocalcin levels are related to the rate of bone turnover in various disorders of bone metabolism, e.g. osteoporosis, primary and secondary hyperparathyroidism, and Paget's disease.
