Clinical Use | Measurement of PTH and its use in patient management is often complicated by the presence of inactive PTH fragments in blood. Although clinically useful, most commercially available PTH assays have limitations including a lack of specificity for the immediate N-terminal region of the PTH molecule. Also, in addition to measuring levels of the entire hormone (an 84 amino acid chain), these assays measure various mid-molecule and C-terminal PTH fragments with limited or no biological activity. |
