Instructions Due to nationwide shortages of some phlebotomy tubes specified for trace element testing, ARUP Laboratories is currently accepting lavender (EDTA) tubes as alternative collection tubes. Please submit the original blood collection tube. Whole blood in a pour off tube is NOT acceptable.

Transport temperature: Refrigerated or Ambient; frozen unacceptable.
Stability: Ambient: 1 week; Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: Unacceptable
Unacceptable specimens: Specimens collected in tubes other than Royal Blue (EDTA). Specimens transported in containers other
than Royal Blue (EDTA) tube or Trace Element-Free Transport Tube. Clotted specimens.
Do not spin. ARUP perfers original Royal Blue - EDTA be sent, but will accept trace metal free aliquot tubes.

Patient should refrain from eating seafood and taking herbal supplements at least 3 days prior to sample collection.
